Decarboxylation
Decarboxylation is the secret to potent edibles. Decarboxylation is a process using heat to
activate the THC in your cannabis and get it ready for use in edible making. In my and
many other edible makers opinions, this is vital to making edibles. If you do not decarboxylate you are wasting your time and materials.
What you need:
Your desired amount of Cannabis used for cooking.
A Turkey/Roasting Oven bag or Covered baking (Oven Safe) Dish or a Cooking sheet (anything you can lay cannabis on flat)
An Oven or a Toaster Oven large enough to fit your ingredients and able to set temperature.
A timer if you can’t watch the clock or keep track of time. I find setting alarms on my phone works well.
Directions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 220-250 degrees. I've heard a range of different temps personally I do it at 240.
Step 2: Place your weed in a turkey roasting bag or a covered baking dish. If you don’t
have those items you can use a cookie tray or whatever your weed fits safely into the
oven. I’ve done it uncovered, and it doesn’t ruin anything. If you use a cooking sheet you want to spread the cannabis out and break bigger nugs up.
Step 3: Bake the cannabis for 30 minutes. Your entire kitchen and potentially your entire
home will smell like cannabis. If you use potent weed the smell gets even stronger. Don’t
panic if your bud has a crispy toasted appearance.
Step 4: Allow the decarboxylated cannabis to cool, carefully placing it in the freezer can
speed things up. Allowing the cannabis to cool is important for saving phytonutrients.
Now your buds are ready for making edibles...
