Cannabis Tincture (Glycerin based)

Glycerin based Tinctures are one of my favorite ways to infuse cannabis products. You are
basically, creating a syrup like substance that can be used in all kinds of stuff including
gummy candy and beverages. You can add flavoring straight to a tincture and drink it
straight or mix it into your favorite soda and enjoy a medicated marvel. Many people use
alcohol bases when making tinctures (I will cover this next). Glycerin based tinctures
have a natural sweet taste and go down smooth unlike alcohol tinctures.
What you need:
A crock pot large enough to fit a mason jar inside.
A mason jar large enough to fit 3-5 cups of liquid
3-5 cups of Food Grade Vegetable Glycerin I find a nice non-GMO brand made from palm
leaves work great and is very cheap on amazon.
1⁄4 - 1 Ounce (7-28 grams) of Decarboxylated Cannabis. I recommend at least 14 grams, 28
if the quality of cannabis is on the low side.
A washcloth or rag
A strainer or Purity filter.
A bowl to strain into.
Heat Resistant gloves (under $10 on amazon) or waterproof oven mitts
A funnel can be helpful but not mandatory.
Directions:
Step 1: Place your desired amount of Decarboxylated cannabis into your mason jar.
Step 2: Pour 3-5 cups of Vegetable Glycerin into the mason jar and shake it up so it
completely covers your cannabis.
Step 3: Place a washcloth or rag on the bottom of your crock pot. This will prevent you
from shattering the mason jar when you insert it into the crock pot so make sure you use
the cloth as a cushion for your mason jar.
Step 4: Place your sealed mason jar with the cannabis and glycerin into the crock pot on
top of the rag.
Step 5: Pour water into the crock pot high enough that your mason jar is at least halfway
submerged.
Step 6: Put your crock pot on the lowest temperature possible and let the tincture cook
for 6-24 hours. You can literally leave it, but it will gain a very distinct burnt cannabis
taste. I recommend carefully removing the mason jar from the crock pot every hour using
heat resistant gloves and shaking up the jar to evenly mix the glycerin and give it a really
good taste.
Although 6 hours is enough, I personally never cook it for less than 20 hours.
I’ve even done 48 hours. The longer cooking time can be grueling if you are shaking it
every hour but I swear it’s worth it. If you do it with a friend or roommate, you can take
shifts. The longer the cooking time the more potent the end results will be. Shaking the
contents every hour ensures your preserve the flavor. Once you have removed the jar and
placed it back into the crock pot a few times you will understand the value of the rag
under the jar protecting it from breaking.
Step 7: Once you have cooked the tincture for your desired amount of time remove the
mason jar from the crock pot carefully using heat resistant gloves. Let it cool.
Step 8: Strain the contents of the mason jar into the bowl. If you use a filter, make sure to
squeeze out the filter to get every drop into your bowl.
Step 9: Pour the Tincture into a container (the same mason jar can be cleaned and
reused) and store for future use. Keep it in a dark place out of sun light to increase the
lifespan.
