The day of the event everything that could go wrong did.
Sara had a guest list a mile long and this greatly angered the woman who ran the front desk and sold tickets. She just happens to be Mistress Azule's daughter.
The guy who usually helped Leo with security did not show up and I had to fill in as backup security and general manager. Since Sara was busy with makeup and costumes, all problems and complaints found their way to me.
Two performers dropped out. Sara started to panic but then two more of her friends stepped up and offered to fill the void.
Jesus tripped and broke the fog machine.
The chocolate fountain we bought for the event stopped working 30 minutes in. Someone brought a birthday cake but there were no plates or forks.
The main head lining performer who we billed on the flier attempted to quit. Let's call her Mona. She was a Dominant employee of Safehaven and considered herself a submissive to Mistress Azule the owner.
Mona also hosted her own events at Safehaven and was insanely jealous when she saw how many people showed up to our event. She tried to cancel her performance a few hours before and Mistress Azule heard about the drama and squashed it.
Mistress Azule used her position as not only Mona's boss but also her Dominant and made Mona do her performance.
Mona originally had planned to do some sort of fire dance with pyrotechnics. After Mistress Azule forced her to perform, she decided she was going to do it half assed to spite Sara.
Mona wasn't going to actually light torches that were part of her act she was just going to dance around and pretend to. Then blame it on Sara not getting fire clearance from Mistress Azule to make Sara look unprepared. She literally told me not realizing who I was.
Now I am not a fire technician I don't know the specifics of exactly what happened.
Apparently, Mona's assistant Fang did not get the memo about no fire. She had prepped the torches by soaking them in the fuel. During the performance Mona expected the torches not to light. She danced over towards them, sparked her lighter and was severely surprised when they lit. I think she even lit her own hair on fire briefly.
Being the egotistical bitch that she is, she just continued on with her performance, and everyone loved it. But this moment sort of started a rivalry we never asked for. For years Mona would secretly resent Sara and constantly bad mouthed her behind her back. She was always causing trouble until years later she quit.
Our second planned performer was an aspiring burlesque dancer named Lady Audrey. She was an employee at Safehaven who did not get many clients. She had joined our group of friends at events every weekend with her intellectual husband.
She was not a well-known performer, but we wanted to give her the chance to become one. I always tried to encourage Audrey. We had a friendly relationship and would harmlessly flirt at times. I would joke and say I secretly had a crush on Audrey, and she would do the same about me.
It was not serious at all. I think it still bugged her husband though.
The next problem involved Miss Vaughn.
While hanging out at Bondcon, Miss Vaughn and I had made up an idea to create a game for submissives to play on stage called the Survivor Her Challenge. We were basically spoofing the types of challenges you might see on the Television Show Survivor. Submissives would compete in three elimination rounds, the last remaining submissive would be crowned the winner.
Rounds would consist of things like taking a number of hits from a specified impact toy or kneeling on Legos or rice for a period of time.
Balancing cups of water while singing embarrassing songs. The best thing was anyone at the event could enter. It was a way for people with no play partners to get involved and get played with at the event.
When Miss Vaughn heard about our event, she volunteered to bring the “Survive Her Challenge” to life on stage. She created the three rounds and planned to run the competition herself. Unfortunately, last minute she could not make the trip from San Diego due to health concerns. She sent Sara and I instructions on how to put the challenge together without her.
Sara was reluctant to run the challenge by herself and luckily the ladies of Safehaven stepped up and handled the rounds.
This created a tradition of the employees of Safehaven always being involved in the Survive Her Challenge as a way to showcase the dungeon. Mistress Azule loved it.
Mistress Azule and Sara even donated a decent prize. The winner of the challenge could come back to the dungeon during business hours for a free hour-long session with Sara.
Over 300 people attended the event. For those who remember it is still spoken about as one of the greatest events to take place at Safehaven.
One of the local Los Angeles newspapers "LA Weekly" even dispatched a reporter to interview Sara about her events.
Unfortunately, the woman chooses to write some weird article about Sara's semi poly lifestyle dating myself and the woman from the flyer at the same time. It really upset Sara and many people in the fetish community and came off as sensationalized drama. But it did make the events sound popular.
